Club Update

Dear Valued TSC Members,

Over the past months we were hopeful that through submitting several detailed proposals and arranging meetings with City of Markham Senior Management, the Club may have been safely reopened in some capacity this Fall.

Despite our best efforts, the City has decided not to reopen the South wing of the Thornhill Community Centre, namely the Seniors Centre spaces including lounge, cafe, rooms 1,2,3 and offices. Without space for us to operate, Club activities are essentially being put “on hold” until the City deems it safe for us to resume operation within the Senior Centre.

In our meetings with the City we stressed how important Seniors activities are to the health and well-being of our Members.  For this reason they are currently working on introducing some Seniors programs later this year within other spaces of the Thornhill Community Centre.  We understand these programs will be fully managed by the City of Markham, including COVID screening, pre-registration, payment and supervision.  All revenue from these programs will also go to the City.  Once we have official word that these programs are being offered, we will post a link to the City site where you can learn what is available and how to participate should you choose to do so.

Although we will not be running our regular activities, our Club remains in operation.  Our next task is arranging refunds for the following pre-paid TSC activities:

  • Travel
  • Partial Refunds for March/April Art Classes
  • Pool Tournament Tickets
  • St. Pat’s Cafe Event Tickets
  • Spring Fling Lunch Tickets

Once we have permission from the City to enter the building to access our files, we will compile the lists of Members who are owed refunds.  Once completed we will contact you by phone to schedule pick-up of your cash refund.  Dates, times and location of pickup to be determined.  We appreciate your patience while we work through this as quickly as possible.

Unused tickets and punch cards will be fully honoured once the Club re-opens, so please hang on to them.  We understand that City of Markham punch cards are also on hold until further notice.

As most of you are aware, your 2019/20 Annual Membership Fees were collected on behalf of the City of Markham.  As per the latest letter from Mary Creighton, they are still working out how they will deal with the issue.  We will post information to the site once we have something official.  Until then, all inquiries regarding TSC Annual Membership Fees should be directed to the City at 905-477-5530 or email customerservice@markham.ca

On a positive note, we are hoping to be able to put some safe TSC social events together over the winter months.  Stay tuned to the website for details.

We understand the extended closure of the Club comes as disappointing news to many of you, as it was to us.  However, we remain optimistic that the Club may resume operation sooner than predicted, pending COVID health concerns.

Stay safe and be well,

Norm Goldstein & the TSC Board of Directors

City of Markham Addresses Current Senior Concerns

Hello Everyone. We hope you are keeping safe and well.

A letter has been issued to address all Senior facilities and programs within the City of Markham.

It’s important that our Members know that the Thornhill Seniors Club is in a unique situation compared to other Centres within the City of Markham. TSC is currently working hard with the City to plan a safe return to Seniors programming within the Thornhill Community Centre by late Fall.  Updates will be provided once we have something in place.

Stay tuned and stay well.

Living with Face Masks

Mandatory mask wearing is predicted to stay in place long term.  It’s important that we educate ourselves on how to best live with them.
